Urban avalanche protecting in Tromsø
 ( Photo: Ole-André Helgaas / Statens vegvesen )
On this excursion, we’ll take the ‘Fjellheisen’ gondola to take in a spectacular view over Tromsø and learn about urban avalanche mitigation measures employed for the portion of the city located on the Norwegian mainland. Here, you will get information about hazard zone mapping and some of the associated restrictions given to development of the area. You will also get a chance to see some supporting structures installed in a release area which threatens the settlement.
We will eat lunch together at the ‘Fjellstua’ restaurant before walking down 1300 Sherpa steps. If you choose, we can also take the gondola down or even remain on the mountain to do your own afternoon hike.
